The Future Of Sleep
We live in a rapid society where people are under more stress, working harder and have a serious case of “FOMO”. Too much of it can be exhausting mentally and physically, which is more detrimental to our health than we realize.
What’s one of the top activities we are truly missing out on? Sleep.
What is a main component that helps us face our busy lifestyles? Yep, that’s right –sleep!
We all know it’s important, yet it typically falls near the bottom of our list. Let’s evaluate why change is necessary and how supplements can help.
Why We Need To Prioritize Sleep
Everyday people are making it their mission to eat right and exercise, but what are the goals for resting? It’s one of the most powerful tools that are essential for things like:
Strengthening immunity
Regulating hormones
Increasing brain function
Mood stability
Boosting overall health
Preventing accidents
It can be a challenge to shut our brains off after processing an abundance day-in and day-out. We’ve all been there, so it’s clear why the demand for sleep aids is on the rise.
Better Sleep With Supplements
Ashwagandha
Like most herbs, Ashwagandha has been a medicinal miracle for thousands of years. It is used as an anti-inflammatory and mostly noted for its effects in reducing stress and anxiety. Ashwagandha is excellent for immune support and a recent study has shown that it has the potential to help those suffering from insomnia (1).
Chamomile
This aromatic plant is known to be very calming and is among the herbs used as a tranquilizer. It not only helps with digestion and headaches, but also restlessness. A study from 2017 shows us how Chamomile can significantly improve sleep quality (2).
Valerian
Valerian root is from a powerful perennial that helps relax muscles, reduce nervousness and promote sleep. In fact, there is plenty of research on valerian and its effectiveness on helping those with moderate insomnia (3).
Magnesium
As an essential mineral, magnesium helps us metabolize vitamins (4), improves digestion and supports bone health. It can improve blood pressure, cardiovascular health and regulate neurotransmitters, which improves sleep efficiency (5).
CBD
Cannabidiol is one of the main compounds found in cannabis. Many people have found relief from various ailments by using CBD and while people are still discovering its benefits, cannabidiol has actually been cultivated since ancient times. While there are several studies out there on its health benefits, this one from 2019 shows us that it can increase the chance of a more restful sleep (6).
Gaba
Gamma-aminobutyric acid is a compound produced by the brain, which can be recreated for supplementation use. This neurotransmitter naturally relaxes the mind and helps the body with recovery. Increased levels of GABA can be used as an efficient sedation (7), so it’s no wonder that OTC and prescription drugs try to manipulate these receptors. GABA supplements help achieve that without the negative side effects.
Melatonin
This natural hormone has benefits beyond helping with insomnia; however, it is known for its sleep-inducing properties. Supplements made with melatonin can help induce sleep at a quicker rate and significantly improve its quality (8).
